They aren't liquidating their positions, simply rolling some profits into sectors that have taken a big hit and should bounce nicely once the economy starts to turn. (Not saying that is going to be very soon.) The Street likes to diversify a little. Unlike the retail trader, most of the Street can't be 100% invested in any one sector. I expect, in addition to financials, some of their energy profits are going into real estate investment trusts that aren't tied into the sub prime market.
