I see the inherent problem as being related to not having term limits. Because a member of Congress can stay in office indefinitely, he or she is constantly looking at the shifting polls based on short term media driven events. Perfect example was turning all airport screeners into government employees. Instead of allowing contractors to do the job, with serious oversight, the knee jerk reaction, due largely to the media drumbeat created another 100K or so government employees.

With term limits, more would be inclined to stick to the principles that got them elected, instead of the "do everything to get elected" mentality we have today. If the MSM in mass began a call for everyone to have free dental care, politicians would react to the call.

Shouldn't every American have teeth they can eat with? Shouldn't every child in America have the right to straight teeth and be able to purchase braces?

I can see the stories now with little 9 year old buck teeth kids crying into the camera. 6 months later we would have the "Children Deserve a Smile" legislation enacted."
