I believe Intel has said the first processors in the Merced family are hoped to run at 500 - 600 MHz. They hope to get to 1 GHz by 2000 or 2001, I think.

As for no-one else finding this thread, give it time. Oh, one thing though, I think Merced is much more associated with Intel than with HP. Maybe this would have been better suited for the semis thread? Posting to Intel is also much more "voracious" than it is to the HP one.
