The Louisiana purchase was 828,000 square miles, a nice patch of land. Too bad we couldn't buy Canada too, while the British were preoccupied with the French. We did try to invade and conquer Canada in 1812, assuming it would be a "cake walk". But it wasn't. Oh well...
