No, it wouldn't become "government-run health care". All the providers would still be private, the drug companies would still be private. Much of the pure research is already government funded.

Would government have more influence on prices over time? Certainly. But frankly the cost of US health care is out of control, and the payment system so inefficient, and the insurance system so convoluted by the artificial market, that that's the only way we can get reform.
