Dear Eracer:

So much for your sense:

Lets take the newest mobile CPU on the last 180nm process and compare it to the 2nd generation mobile CPU from the last 130nm Copper SOI process. The mobile 1.4GHz Palomino 1600+ P rating and a 0.8GHz 1900+ P rating Mobile Sempron 2800 S754. The former uses 35W at 1.4V and the NB uses another 8W TDP for a grand total of 43W. The latter uses 9W at 0.975V and 0.8GHz. At that clock, it gets a 1900+ P rating. The former is usually paired with PC133 (133MHz SDR) while the latter usually got PC2700 (333MHz DDR). The latter runs circles around the former even at lowest clock. Mostly due to higher speed memory and the very low latency ODMC, not to mention 64 bit processing.

See:

sandpile.org

So we get 9W versus 43W and 1900+ versus 1600+. 20% higher performance for 21% of the power. Substitute Shrike for Sempron 2800 at 0.8GHz and Turion Ultra for Mobile Athlon 4 1600+ and you still see about 8W TDP for 31W Ultra and a 11.4W TDP 780G combo.

Your sense is neither common or right. It turned into nonsense rather than anything common.

Hilarious and error-filled reply from you in assuming "It can't be done!"

Mobile Palomino topped out at 1.4GHz, 130nm Copper SOI had mobile CPUs up to 2.133GHz with P ratings of 2800+ BT (really Sempron with AMD64 fused off) (1.8GHz for mobile Sempron 64 at far higher performance again P2800+). Even using all mobiles, you are still wrong.

I'm am not predicting 8W TDPs (another wrong paraphrase on your part). I am saying its possible. Of course you glossed over me saying that its more likely AMD said ACP rather than TDP as the author said. So Shrike plus an OLED display, DDR3 memory, flash based storage and a DVD burner could get 6+ hours of typical office work out of a ultra portable notebook or tablet using a small one pound battery.

Puma gets 3+ hours out of HP's tablet TX-2500 from another's post even with standard notebook HDs and passive LCD screen.
