Someone on this thread said once that racism won't die until all the older generations in this country die off.

I am not so sure its dead even among the young. I did my student teaching this past semester at one of the most diverse high schools in the country. No one race or religion predominates. The last week before the end of school I was standing in the hallway waiting for my mentor teacher to unlike the door. It was early in the morning and some black kids were talking not far from me. As they talked a Latino walked by them. A black girl said I can't stand them......one of the black guys responded by saying, but that one isn't so bad. When the same Latino walked by again, the black guy said hello to him......the Latino who was in one of my classrooms and is a pretty friendly guy said: "Was 'sup holmes?" In gangster slang that can mean anything but the tone of the delivery was neutral to unfriendly. Now its very possible that race was not the issue at all but some how I think that's wrong.

On the positive side, given the level of diversity, these kids get along very well. The US would be a lot better off if this high school were its model.
