I read the article about 7 years ago, when LNG was starting back up in this country. After searching for an hour I can find no trace of the incident, thus am compelled to concur that I am mistaken. It was an accident many years ago on an east coast river the LNG tanker was coming up to unload it's cargo. It caused great concern about the safety of running LNG tankers through populated areas.

Was very interested in reading through the lists of incidents. Some very foolish decisions were made regarding the selection of material. It is fairly common knowledge that many metals are exceptionally brittle at LNG temperatures. Hit a metal that cold with a hammer and it will fracture/fail. The materials must be chosen very carefully.

As for the fire aspects, that seems up in the air. I found arguments on both sides. It appears it is not an explosion so much as a wall or sea of fire. Not a very comforting difference if you are in the area. The Cleveland incident, where it went through the sewers, was particularly disturbing. Fortunately the terminal sites are designed to contain 110% or more of the maximum storage capacity, so rivers of fire are unlikely except in the case of a tanker rupture.

Very disturbing that I cannot find the article. Am going to poke around some more. If I find it I will P-mail it to you.
