The United States was a straggler in ending slavery, and Lincoln was President for only about 49 months. Presidents who are assassinated are enlarged for their unfilled promises and for what they did. And Presidents who have had a "way" with words, get more attention because of that ability (and that's also how they get elected and are effective).

But in science, often the reported inventor is one of a team or one of a few who develop the same concepts or inventions or methodologies. If not for the one, others would have done it or similar soon afterward, maybe even better.

Consider Salk and Sabin.
