Skeeter,

Let's sum this up so we can agree to disagree and move on.

This is what we know so far.

You are in favor of private property rights unless the owner allows people to engage in activities like smoking on his property that you don't like. Then you are in favor of changing the laws to inconvenience him and many others instead so you can be more comfortable.

You are in favor of free markets that deliver in proportion to consumer preferences unless you don't agree with the results. Then you want to expand and use the state to mandate what the markets will deliver to meet your objectives.

You are against your political opponents expanding and using the state to implement economic, social, or security goals you don't agree with or believe the state should be involved with.

To me, this indicates you are like the typical left/right wing politician or activist that believes he knows what's best for others, is willing to expand and use the state to implement his own economic, social, and security values but is also willing to vigorously fight against his political opponents that try to do the same.

There is nothing wrong with that philosophy other than IMO it's unprincipled. It's also one of the major reasons for the slow loss of our economic freedom, slow loss of our personal freedoms and privacy, slow economic decline, and eventual total decline as a country. (Not to mention the fact that our political process has deteriorated so badly and become so hostile because the state has so much power that people know that their political opponents are likely to use it in ways that don't like).

I prefer coming down in the side of private property, free markets, individual liberty, etc... despite the fact that I don't always agree with the activities some people engage in, the results of that freedom, and the fact that I sometimes might be mildly inconvenienced because things aren't be done my way.

However, I am not an anarchist. When people of sound mind all agree on something, IMO there is nothing wrong with laws that restrict behavior, activity etc...

I am opposed to left wing and right wing democratic gang rule. IMO, that's not freedom and that's not why this country was founded.

I don't smoke.

I never have smoked.

I prefer a smoke free environment.

I think it's a foolish and unhealthy habit.

I will always be in favor of private property owners being able to open smoking restaurants, pool rooms, bars, etc... despite the inconvenience to me if I CHOOSE to go there. I know it's just a matter of time before totalitarians and fascists like you start restricting all sorts of freedoms of mine. In fact, they've already done that plenty.
