Cute cartoon, thanks.

My brother recommended Firefly to me back at Christmas and loaned me the DVD set. I had zero interest, parked it on the entertainment center and forgot about it.

Then around April, I was channel surfing and came across Heart of Gold on the SciFi channel. I was impressed with the intelligence and depth of the writing and the interplay between the cast, and immediately started watching the DVD set.

I liked it very much, but fell in love with it towards the end of Shindig, when Kaylee was sitting on her bunk looking at her fancy new dress. I was struck by how unusual and touching a scene like this was for a TV series and started watching the subsequent episodes very closely.

It is odd how the show sort of grows on you and gets under your skin. No wonder it did not make much of an impression initially, as it needs time to work its magic.

As for the Chinese, the outtakes reveal that it was learned phonetically and gave the cast fits. It was also revealed that Joss wanted Cantonese, but ended up accidentally with Mandarin. (Or was it the other way around?)
