I remember many years ago, an anti-nuke group at an airport. One counter protestor carried a sign saying "more people died in Ted Kennedy's car than from from nuclear reactors". (This was pre-Chernobyl). The fact that I still remember this indicates that this message was powerful. I have always felt we missed the boat on nuclear power. Unfortunately, you are right, it took four dollar gasoline to wake up so many "little minds" and given the lead-time necessary to expand nuclear power, even if we reduce the regulatory lag, it will be years to see any benefit from nuclear power. And these same "small minds" were suckered by politicians from both parties into the great ethanol farce.
