WUMS95, your first bootnet reference pointed out that VIA Technologies, through their VP3 chipset will have a Socket 7 100 MHz bus and 3x faster interface to SDRAM (new Samsung type) 6 months before Intel will have a 100 MHz bus for Slot 1.

IMO, 66 MHz main memory bus speed will be the limiting factor for application performance once CPU speeds reach 350 MHz. Also, hard disk performance and AGP graphics performance will be 50% better with this bus.

Support for the Samsung SDRAM is important too. Intel hasn't even said that their 100 MHz Slot 1 chipset will support it. They may not, because its a big competitor to their favority, RAMBUS, which won't be ready till '99.
