On the subject of tailgaters.

I use this rule when traveling on the L.A. freeways which are always saturated with vehicles. If I can't see the tailgaters front wheels(tires), I consider the car as too close and take off some speed. Tailgaters hate that and tend to change lanes.

Many drivers adhere to "the pressure" of the tailgater and actually speed up. Bad decision, unless you are poking along below the authorized speed limit in the number one lane.
