Even back on the obama thread, i tried to define what i see as the difference between true progressivism and conventional liberalism. It was an easy argument for me to make because i used it back in 1980 when i supported progressive conservatism of reagan against the liberal establishmentarians. Well Reagansim just like the New Deal had its run. What i like most about obama is the bottom up nature of how he sees things, not top down traditional new deal welfare statism/unionism. In 1932, i would have supported unions and FDR new deal against reactionary republicans. In 1980, i supported RR against reactionary new dealers with no good ideas in a capitalist era. And now i am able to support a new type of progressivism that is bottom up at its core and deals with the current realities, not those of 1932 or those of 1980. If obama stays true to this, i will vote for him. If not, i will vote for mccain as i prefer a captialist approach to the new deal of the 30s. Eventually the new progressivism will take power. In england the new progressivism is led by the Tories of all people. Weird.
