No ..

We need every source of supply we can reasonably develop
in order to mitigate the depletion rates of the old
giant conventional fields going forward ..

As the exporters gain wealth and modernize their
economies they tend to use more of the energy they
produce internally; add in depletion and the amount
of oil for export has to decline ..

We and every other country that isn't energy self
sufficient is currently in a bidding war for this
declining amount of net exports .. hence the price !!

2/3 of our daily consumption of crude/products is
imported from somebody ~13.5 mbpd .. How are you
going to fix/change that ?? We can't "drill" our
way out ..

The only solutions I see ..

1) conservation/efficiency gains
2) fuel switching ( ie electric transport )
3) resource wars to secure/steal supply ..

We're currently trying the 3rd option ..

Triff ..
