Universal Detection Technology Submits SAFETY Act Developmental Testing & Evaluation Designation Application With the Department of Homeland Security
LOS ANGELES, CA, Jul 01, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, reported today that it has submitted an application to gain SAFETY Act Developmental Testing and Evaluation Designation (DT&E) with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the BSM-2000 airborne anthrax monitor. UDTT enlisted the assistance of Dr. David McWhorter of the homeland security consulting group Olive, Edwards & Cooper, LLC for preparation of the application. The Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (SAFETY Act) provides important legal liability protections for providers of Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies -- whether they are products or services. The goal of the SAFETY Act is to encourage the development and deployment of new and innovative anti-terrorism products and services by providing liability protections. The DHS has made a concerted effort to implement the program, and about 200 companies have obtained SAFETY Act certification.
The benefits afforded by the SAFETY Act protect not only the enterprise, the "Seller" but also the Seller's suppliers, contractors, and "downstream users" (i.e., customers). This creates a valuable market advantage over competitors that do not have SAFETY Act protections.
Companies with similar products that have received the designation include:
-- 20/20 Gene Systems, Inc.: BioCheck Powder Screening Test Kit -- Lockheed Martin Corporation: Biological Aerosol Warning System (BAWS) -- Hach Ultra Analytics: BioLert(TM) / Bioni(TM)
One of the greatest concerns any business can encounter in a marketplace is exposure to excessive liability," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "Through the DT&E application we will be able to test the BSM-2000 and protect both the company and the customer from any potential liabilities," he added.
