In any case, it occurred to me that with Q moving into services and the buildout of Mediaflo, Brew, and Firethorn, that if done correctly and with a little luck, they have the markings of developing into defendable, entrenched, hard to replicate businesses.

The same could have been said for Globalstar or Wingcast. The key question for these businesses isnt whether they can defend their success, but rather if they will ever become successful in the first place.

If Q wants the market to attribute some value to these businesses, it is pretty simple....they need to start giving out some metrics. For example, Q is starting up production of their iMoD displays next year. Does anybody have a clue as to whether this means 100,000, 1 million or even 10 million units of production capacity? How much are the ASP's expected to be? What are the long-term gross margins expected on the business?

None of the numbers have to be exact, but the fact that they avoid giving even a wide range for investors means that we are a very long way from any meaningful contributions from these businesses (if ever).
