Thank you Ken. He is still very patriotic and his experiences in those services have been very valuable to him in his life's work.

When he turned seventeen in April he told his Dad he was going down to join the Navy. He knew his Dad would have to sign for him to join, but thought he could convince him. His Dad said, "Whoa a minute you have two months left to graduate from high school and unless they will agree to move your boot camp date to June, it is no deal". His Dad went to the recruiting office and explained that to the officer in charge and it was a done deal.

He graduated on a Friday and left for boot camp the following Monday along with six other classmates. They all remained life long friends, although a couple of them have passed away now. He was proud of the fact their families asked him to do their eulogies at their services.
