You may not realize this, but wind power is already at cost parity with coal fired power plants.

When you look at total costs of the wind power site, and then look at its peak production, you will get as low or lower cost for the best sites, than the total cost to build, run, and fuel a coal power plant.

But that coal power plant runs at or near its rated capacity a lot more often than a wind farm does.
