Yeah, its a high risk strategy.
But thats what Intel has done in the past. The result was a 90nm node helicopter landing platform also usable as PCM. ;)
At ISSCC 2008 Intel/STM demonstrated 2b/cell feasibility. I don't know anything about read/write characteristics but thats the relevant point.
