Having said that, sure there are some environmental concerns with both wind and solar, but they are an order of magnitude easier on the environment than coal and oil. Alternatives win that contest hands down.

Often they would, if the contest is a rational one about overall benefits and costs or harm. But often the discussion is political, and focused on some narrow physical area, or some narrow principle of type of harm or benefit.
