FWIW, looking back five years through a bull market period ending in a bear, Miller trails in every time period and Whitman only beats in 5-year annualized return, while he matches or lags in 3-years and under. We know that Miller was beating the SP500 for a long time but the last two years wrecked the most recent 5-year block.

BRKB only matched the SP500 from 2003-2007 but held up much, much better the last twelve months.
