sounds like the orders may have been lost to competition

"We do not believe that any of these opportunities were lost to competitors"

what the hell kind of explanation is "we do not believe." their representatives cannot tell them one way or the other is they have a solid order? Management do not have a relationship with their customers to be able to confirm one way or the other if the order is still a good order?

I wonder what really happen to cause this disaster.
