Thinking of 4 July, Independence and all that, what a shame the USA didn't stay part of the British Empire. Slavery would have been stopped long before it was. There wouldn't have been a Suez crisis. There would now be a global empire of democracy and capitalism, freedom and rule of law.

Germany and Japan would never have risen to the militaristic mania they did. World War I would probably not have got going at all.

India, Pakistan, Africa and probably China would have been happy self-governing members of the greatest amalgamation of freedom in history.

Instead, there have been centuries of slavery, repression, war, carnage, economic destruction and conflict, with Americans on the wrong side of history such as backing terrorists in IRA, slow to oppose Germany and Japan, and having an atavistic attitude to Great Britain in general.

Maybe next 4 July a reamalgamation could be organized and Obama would be just the man to do it. Perhaps he could assign Bill Clinton and Colin Powell to do some international negotiations to develop a supranational constitution.

There was also that shocking waste of tea by those brutes in Boston.
