I certainly don't profess to be an expert but I would venture to say that if the Japanese were to dump that sort of supply in the open market they would be lucky to get a dime on the dollar.....
What would prevent the U.S. from getting an IMF loan (or otherwise getting the financial backing of some of its other allies) and picking those bonds up dirt cheap? Come to think of it, that would be one heck of a beautiful opportunity for the U.S....
It wasn't too long ago that the Japanese bought u.s. commercial real estate at the top of the market and ended up selling at the bottom...
