The subprime mess was because of a lack of regulation on investment banks. That is recognized.

Society has the final say in a democracy. And sometimes they do things people do not like. Like when the government finally forced the south to integrate. But that had to be done.

Living in a democracy means compromise. Anarchy and dictatorships are what we had in the past. Tribal warefare.

Take a look at Africa. It looks like europe used to look until democracy took hold.
