I would have expected tourism in the US to increase when prices in relative terms have decreased by a third or more against major currencies. Do you suppose that there may be cultural factors that cause declining numbers of tourists? There is wide-spread animosity against foreign nationals. Lou Dobbs has a vitriolic anti-illegal daily "news" show. Travelers are searched, and can be arrested without habeas corpus. People from Islamic countries probably don't want to risk coming here, no matter how cheap it gets. Our cultural problem is due to the way we show ourselves in broadcast media. The average American is still the friendly, welcoming person s/he has always been.
