Chris, > You feel these massacres were called for and justified, and to despise them is a "leftist" reaction?

Like most wars, the Korean War was anything but a "splendid little war." Even after the war, thousands of suspected communists were tried in kangaroo courts and executed on a regular basis. This was part of the series of strongman regimes that started from Syngman Rhee in the 40's to Chun Do-Hwan in the 80's.

And throughout the whole time, America looked the other way. Should that be any surprise? Americans were much more concerned about halting the spread of communism than enforcing the ideals of democracy within the very "pro-America" governments they supported.

I don't think any violation of human rights is justified, but it's really easy to second-guess when you have the luxury of hindsight, especially a luxury paid for by blood. Can't change the past, but we can ensure that future generations don't have to choose between two evils.
