The speculation and saber-rattling concerning an attack on Iran by Israel has been going on for years, since at least 2005:

globalresearch.ca

Nothing has happened, however, despite the fact that it was clearly more effective for Israel to attack 3 or 4 years ago when the Iranian work was less developed than it is now, before it progressed, been protected from attack, etc.

And from a tactical standpoint - not strategic - an Israeli attack requires US advice and consent if only b/c of the Iraq fly-over but also b/c Israel needs to know what the US reaction will be in advance of the attack.

And that advice and consent isn't forthcoming because approval risks a 1973-style embargo at a time when oil prices are sky-high and our precarious economy, bloodied by subprime, cannot take another hit.

Lots of saber rattling, no action, in my estimation.

Iranian rhetoric is out of control, but they are not interested in self-immolation for that is what would happen to Iran if they attack Israel with a nuke. Rememnber that there is a wide gap between rhetoric and reality in the Middle East, esp. from anti-Semites.
