In Beijing, our son [Tarken] and I bought a couple of new simple bicycles for only about $50 each, including with a basket on the front. He gave his to the 14 year old boy who was working day and night, literally, in the Youth Hostel. Poor kid. From the countryside and no doubt paid nothing except room and food. Tarken was teaching him a bit of English [giving him the change if he could say how much change it should be [for the meal]]. Being given a bike would have been a big deal for him. I have had a motor scooter for a few years [bought from a daughter who went to Australia]. It's a little cute one, top speed about 35 mph [on level ground]. It's nice to get around traffic and park anywhere at all. I was going to get a little 250cc Suzuki GN250 motorbike too, to get up to 100 kph, but I don't really need it and now they have zoomed up in price due to global demand due to fuel prices. 40 years ago I had a Yamaha YDS5E 250cc which was great fun and my primary transport for a while.
