Communism doesn't need to be non-democratic. Communism is about communal ownership of property

You are quite mistaken. "communal ownership" has a nice ring to it, but in reality there will always be a group that will decide whom to fire, to hire, etc. Power corrupts, and eventually - even if those in power will start with the best intentions - they will end up running a pretty terrible system. (I also addressed this in a reply to one of your posts just below Message 24734112 ).

Individual rights even under a well intentioned communist system will be vulnerable - and will be compromised before long.

Gorby.... I lost interest in him after he was fired by Yeltsin, but in his speeches prior to that he expressed views which were pretty much in accord with the traditional Soviet way of doing business. He wanted to modify the soviet system, make it more competitive - but he fully intended to preserve it.
