Fireworks here were pretty subdued. The town cracked down and only allowed them on the 4th. In earlier years, they started 3-4 days ahead and lasted at least through the 5th.
I have a friend who is a plainclothesman with the local Constabulary. He was B&Ming about having to enforce the fireworks laws. Since it's a misdemeanor, or maybe even infraction, the officer has to actually witness someone setting off illegal fireworks to be able to cite them. Pretty darn impossible IMO.
Saturday, we took the Caboose down to Starkey, OR, so it's there for next week's Roundup

Had a great time - cooked ribeyes for Dave and Sylvia, the owners, and today I spent time helping Dave fix the place up some. He's recuperating from a nasty motorcycle accident a year ago, and is still not 100%. He had Erika working in the store, and taught her to run the register, give change and swipe credit cards. Not bad for a 10-year-old!
Headed back there on Thursday.
You and the Mister ought to check this area out. The Grande Ronde River is beautiful. No idea of the fishing there, but it's a great river. Lots of wildlife. I saw several herons, a bald eagle and couple deer. Elk are abundant, and cats are nearby thanks to the whiffleheads in the Western part of the state who think it's "cruel" to hunt cats with dogs. Result is there are 6000 of them when the normal population should be more like 3000. It'll take a few kids getting grabbed out of backyards before anything is done about it. |
