My bike is a 27-speed, with 3 sprockets in front and 9 in back. There's some overlap, but I use the full range. A CVT hub would be better if it actually works.

In the summer I average 15 miles/day on my bike. Just got back from a long cloudy night ride along the coast, which was delayed by a cow moose with twin calves on the trail. Yesterday I had a fun twilight ride with great views of the distant mountains. At one point I pedaled 50 feet behind a fox hunting along the trail, and watched it make a flying leap to pounce on a vole. The trails here are passable for biking from about May 15 to October 15.

Recently we had a young cyclist on the east side of town attacked by a brown bear, but she was rescued and should make a full recovery. The brownies mostly stay away from my end of town, but I carry bear spray just in case...
