Maurice,

We all join you in admiring your father's WWII service--needless to say I'm proud as well of my 4 uncles who fought in different theaters of that war, especially the one whose face was scarred for life on the beach at Normandy, AND my Army nurse godmother(stationed in Tokyo,1945 and volunteered for the Freedom Village prisoner exchange, Korea)...can't forget the cousin who was a member of the recently decorated Ghost Squadron--so secret a mission that they just recently received their commendations for dropping sensitive listening devices along the Ho Chi Minh Trail during the Vietnam War.

The following words from your reply to me are very revealing:
"These days, USA troops get tired after not long in Iraq and need R&R back in Blighty."

Why is it so important for you to minimize US troop efforts in Iraq without mentioning British troops in Afghanistan? Which military of the two has spilled more blood during radical Islam's terrorist war on the West? Which continent refuses to share an equal burden(in combat & financially) for defending their own freedom? Europeans take for granted the US military's protection of their liberties, while reserving the right to snipe at American troops valiant victory in Iraq.
(which is actually a rerun of your WWII criticisms of the U.S.)

Face it, Maurice, your compulsive need to ridicule US accomplishments merely reveals an ages old human condition---jealousy.

Cheers,Ann
