when volker was around interest rates were in the teens as waa inflation. There is none of this around and with increasing unemployemnt to contend with, pressure is off wages. I have heard the case made that even today, the threat of deflation is greater. If my some stretch we are looking at $3 gas next year rather than $4, inflation will virtually disappear in the yoy. I dont understand what is meant by carter energy policy. is what you are saying that carter was conservation only? If so i dont think that is obamas policy. As far as appeasement goes, did chamberlain appease by talking to hitler or not responding to the sudetenland takeover? If what you are really saying is more or less that negotiating with hitler doesnt pay, i agree. But negotiating with the russians did pay off. This is much more complex than you make it all out to be.
