Another here. My Dad was on the Bunker Hill when it was hit by kamikazes: microworks.net history.navy.mil One of the photos in the first link shows firefighters spraying water on the 20mm guns positions. He was on one of those gun crews. Though the ship didn't sink, the survivors had to bail overboard and swim to a nearby ship. He says he was nearly drowned when caught in the prop wash. Turned over and over and lost all orientation, said he didn't think he was gonna be able to find the surface when suddenly he popped up above it by luck or divine grace. He is sure its the latter.
