The oil industry was created through our government's direct involvement in hammering out a deal with King Saud.

No it wasn't. The oil industry existed long before oil was found in SA. In fact, the international oil industry is what found it SA's oil.

The Internet and all the wealth that created and continues to create for this country was invented by our government.

The government invented a system for the military to communicate. Universities contracted to do this. And university personell began to piggyback on the system for their own communications. Eventually the governent allowed private companies to begin communicating on it. Thus the WWW we know was borne.

The use and development of the internet by industry wasn't planned by the government. They merely allowed it. At least thats my understanding.
