Neither did I. I grew up with born agains and fundies. He pandered to them when he ran the first time. No way i was going to vote for him.

No, he didn't. He had a lot of trouble with that.

"In retrospect, the policies were correct, but he failed to convince us of that."

His approach to energy surprised me. Unlike most everyone else, he was saying stuff that made sense. I especially liked the emphasis on energy independence.

Heck, I even approved of Volcker, although as a new graduated the ol' "last hired, first fired" policies meant a lot of brick pounding. But, after a couple of years, the demand for programmers took off and that ceased to be a problem...
