Carter faced the challenges of the day asking for us to turn down the heat and go 55 mph. Americans need to be challenged but not only by asking them to conserve or be thrifty. Reagan figured that out. However we get out of the crisis' we are in today, we need to be led by a president who exudes optimism. McCain was on Morning Joe today trying to be Reagan. Didnt work all that well.
I do know one issue of his that is resonating well. Its offshore drilling. The average american will be very happy if he can get to the beach in the future on $3 gas, even if he has to look at some drilling way out there that offends the sensibilities of the kennedys and bushes of the world. Same with alaska and the blue haired lady crowd who worry way too much about moose and elk and not about the well being of their fellow citizens. Renewable energy, sure but anything that is perceived to have a quicker result is fine by them too (and me). I can look a little left or right and miss the drilling platform and revel in $3 gas along with joe sixpack.
