What would you do if maliki asks us to leave by a fixed date? My view is that its their country and assuming the date is reasonable, we should be happy about it.

I don't think a fixed date is going to be called for [by Maliki], as Maliki knows he needs us around for right now. But I think I presence there will start to decrease as it becomes more clear the war is won. If he does, I think we can figure out a way to accommodate him.

Should they start up again, that would change things. And we must maintain a sufficient presence such that any renewed commitment on the parts of Sadr, AQI, or others, can be shut down immediately.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask, as I have a personal bias -- I'd like for our guys to pack up and come home today, totally for selfish reasons. But that obviously isn't feasible.
