I think that at this point in time the key issue that is holding nuclear back is perceived safety issues concerning the storage of spent fuel rods that remain radioactive. I have seen claims that recycling and reprocessing of the nuclear waste can significantly reduce the amount of waste that must be stored while also substantially reducing the time it is extremely dangerous. I am seeking some clarification on the exact scope of this issue, with particular reference to the French technology that seems to be most advanced.
