"Under Bush, US Exports to Iran Surge" You are surprised, why? Heck, they probably got some of those $2000 F14s... Which brings up an issue. Why do they still have F-14s flying? The last ones we officially sold them was under Carter more than 30 years ago. F-14s of that vintage has a mean time before failure of less than 30 flight hours. And they have to be flown, or at least started up. Otherwise the bearings in the engines will flat spot. Or, so I have been told. And it was our policy in those years that we didn't sell parts or training to maintain top of the line military equipment like the F-14 except to Israel. So we could control how those weapons were used. We didn't like what was going on, no maintenance and they eventually stopped working. Now, we do know that Reagan sold the Iranians weapons and parts. What we don't really know is how much. If they still have working F-14s, the answer has to be "a lot". Or the sales have been going on until today. Either way, there is a story here.
