Don't the bears get hungry between spawnings? And wouldn't all the salmon bodies feed the downstream eco system? I'm sure the bears can't eat more than a tiny fraction of the spawning salmon. I have seen the salmon spawning process. Umpty thousands of tons of them, seething shoulder to shoulder. {seen on tv, not in person} Come to think of it, wouldn't it be a good idea to take a vehicle and collect millions of the dying salmon, pop them in a freezer and sell them to me? I'll pay more than the bears will. They'll just eat you. I don't think the bears can eat all these: tahoe360.com Maybe you could carry some salmon and chuck one at the bear if he goes for you.
