MFN: FWIW, per discussion with MFL, their position is ejido has more than enough land to graze their animals; Ejido can graze their livestock anywhere other than the immediate mine area including open pit and where MFL is currently drilling to prove up more resources.
Ejido is contending that they cannot graze their livestock because MFL is drilling over the "entire area". MFL likely has less than 3 drills running at any one time. As you likely know, a drill rig is typically a 2 man operation that impacts less than 500 Sq Ft of land. MFL would prefer that the animals not interfere with the drill rigs but assuming 3 rigs at 500 sq ft each, that is less than 2000 sq ft total, so the livestock are free to graze anywhere else on this 1,200 hectares of land (A hectare is a unit of area equal to 10,000 square meters 107,639.1 sq ft). In other words, MFL would have to be operating over 10,000 drill rigs over the area for the Ejido to have a valid case that they are disrupting the "entire area". So although it is true that MFL can disrupt any portion of this 1,200 hectares of land by moving its drill rigs, less than 2,000 sq ft is actually not available for use by farmers for grazing at any one time. This is my understanding of the issue...
I am still trying to discern whether the alleged new President and Secretary of the Ejido per the newspaper article are in fact the current officers of this Ejido. Their seems to be some issues/impropriety over their actually being elected... |
