I agree that David's statistics are way exaggerated (70% tax rate is MUCH higher than 50% because of the way the math works).

However, why is it OK that hard-working white collar professionals even have to pay 50%? Because all of them necessarily have lots of cap gains and tax shelters? Because $150K/year ought to be enough for any family? Because millions of Americans have to make do with $30K/year?

I don't see why people who study hard and work hard to get where they are should be punished to the tune of a 50% effective tax rate. These aren't people who are sitting on mountains of cash, you know.

That's why I took issue with your quote. Which I admit was taken somewhat out of context, but the issue is still relevant.
