SO WHY IS THE PRICE TAKING SUCH A HIT?

Another possible (to my mind, probable) reason: everyone has gone crazy, especially the institutional investors who hold 83% of Compaq's stock. Perhaps the only salvation from these bozos, in the long run, is to buy stocks with minimum institutional investors & NO analysts following them. (I have only one such, and it has been holding firm in the slaughter of the last few days.)
