This is exactly what I was referring to. When the context of the debate centers around the existence of said government programs rather than the efficiency thereof, nothing will ever be done.

The left have become masters of controlling the context of the debate. I am not arguing for the elimination of government programs. Just government waste. Yet most liberals here will twist my words into a straw man argument, like "Tench doesn't want to pay taxes" or "Tench thinks we should live in an anarchy."

I can take that (comes with the territory), but how many people can they hoodwink with that nonsense? Way too many.
