Toyota ramps up Prius, stalls truck production

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it plans to build its popular Prius hybrid on U.S. soil in late 2010 and to suspend the production of its bigger, less fuel-efficient vehicles as consumers continue to flee pickups and SUVs.

The Prius will be manufactured in Blue Springs, Miss., joining the Kentucky-built Camry Hybrid as the second Toyota hybrid built in North America. The Highlander mid-size SUV, which also comes in a hybrid version, was originally scheduled to be built in Mississippi.
