On a better Hokie Alumni note, Joe Saunders has made the All-Star team. July 6, 2008 Joe Saunders selected for all-star game Los Angeles Angels pitcher Joe Saunders has been selected for his first major league all-star game and will participate in the festivities next week in New York City. The former Hokie, who shuttled between Anaheim and AAA Salt Lake in 2006 and 2007, is 12 to 4 with a 3.04 earned run average in 17 starts and has held opponents to a .239 batting average. The left-hander is tied with Arizona's Brandon Webb for the major league lead in wins. There's a small chance he could start in the Mid Summer Classic next Tuesday night.
